Celebrating the beauty of the foxglove! Also known as 'Witches' Thimbles' or 'Fairy Thimble' this special plant was associated with magical folk and in past times was also collected as an essential medical herb. The foxglove contains digitalis which is used to treat heart conditions in modern medicine.

I love to see the statuesque flowers rising with its magenta blooms from green hedgerows in Spring time! And the bees adore it! I love to see furry bumble bees wiggling inside the cone-shaped flowers.

Celebrating the fantastic 'Red Hot Poker' (Kniphofia) - a beautiful, tropical-looking garden plant which glows gorgeous oranges and reds in Summer, looking like a vibrant firework in the borders.

This is a plant that I was fascinated with as a child, looking so out of the ordinary that I couldn't really decide if it was a plant, flower, or alien! We all have our place in life, just as the extraordinary Red Hot Poker also finds a special place amongst the flowers in the garden and adds an essential bit of 'Razzle-Dazzle' to our lives!

'Love-in-the-Mist' (Nigella) is another favourite plant from childhood. When you see the pretty flowers all massed together, you can understand the common name of 'Love-in-the-Mist' as the pale blue flowers seem to float in a mist of delicate lace-like fronds...

Nigella flowers represent protection, love, hope, life, fertility, purity, and peace. In Ancient Greek mythology, it's said that Nigella flowers spring from the tears of the goddess Demeter, weeping for her daughter Persephone, lost in the Underworld so the flowers also represent grief and healing and have in fact been used in healing medicines in times passed.

One of our most beautiful winter flowers and always one of the earliest and longest-lasting blooms in the garden, the beautiful Hellebore is also sometimes known as the Christmas Rose or Lenten Rose.

In former times, Hellebores were used for protection and purification but always with caution as the plant is also toxic.

I love to see them in late Winter and Spring and also cultivate them in my own garden where I delight in the floral greeting while the rest of the garden slumbers!

Daffodils represent hope - symbols of life and Spring. I coloured my 'Darling Daffodils' illustration to show the clear blue skies of Spring days which always give us hope that a long winter is coming to an end and there are better days ahead!

Daffodils also have religious associations, as it's said that wild daffodils grow around the sites of former. long-gone, religious buildings.
