I had the idea for this cute ladybug card template after seeing little ladybugs (or ladybirds, as we call them here in the UK) nesting inside for winter.
After making my circle cards recently, I thought that the circular shape would be very cute with a little ladybug on - I ended up making it a 12-sided card, so that it still has the circular feel but won't rock'n'roll about like my circle cards, while it still has a circular inner card to fit.
I tried to make the design really cute - it would work well as a birthday card, for ladybug-lovers of all ages, or as there's no message on it, send it as a ladybug greeting card for any occasion - thank yous, get well soons, hellos, etc.
The ladybug greeting card is actually pretty easy to make - you make it in the same way as my usual square card templates, the shape is just a little different!
You will need to cut and score the card and envelope - this allows us to make the card and envelope from flat pieces of cardstock on the standard Cricut sticky mat (not the specialist card mat). You can do this with a scoring tool on your cutting machine or manually (with a knitting needle or other blunt implement, after deleting the score lines from your cutting machine program). There's more detail on how to do this for my card templates on this page - the instructions work just the same for this shaped card, it's just the shape that's different. The instructions are mainly for Cricut users, although they also include instructions for scoring manually - but if you're using another type of cutting machine, I think you'll still find the instructions helpful.
Once your card and envelope is cut and scored, you can use this tutorial to help you fold and assemble them - again, the instructions are for my square cards, but the process is just the same, it's the shape that's different.
The template makes a card that's around 12 x 12 cm (4.75 x 4.75 inches) with an envelope that's a little larger.
If you need the measurements for the different elements, they are here. Measurements include the score lines, as provided.
Measurements are taken using Cricut Design Space.
I normally try to do a couple of different colour ideas for my card templates, but for my ladybug card I felt like there was just one option, red and black - so I did it, but with two different colour versions to show the slight differences you can create just with small changes.
So the outer card is red, the inner card black, and the envelope is green - if you possibly can, do try and get some black card or paper for the inner card. It's so much more like a ladybug when you have the red and black in the correct places like this.
I'd have quite liked a dark orange card, as I think the ladybird/ladybug would've looked nice on this too.
I've chosen two different greens for the envelopes, but other colours would look good too, so change up the idea to suit your own creativity.
